Teaching English as a Foreign Language Undergraduate
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Vietnam
As a language learner
I started out as a typical Vietnamese student, studying English only at school during my first years of education. The journey flourished when I got admitted into a specialised high school, majoring in English. Throughout my high school time, I earned specific credentials for my language learning efforts, including Silver Medal in English at 2016 Summer Camp for Specialised High School in Southern Vietnam, Consolidation Prize in English at 2018 National Examination for the Gifted, Winner of 2017 Nourish Future – Discover Japan Competition, etc.
Besides English, I already took up Chinese and French when I started my university education. Currently, I am a Junior at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. I got a fully-funded scholarship to join an exchange program at Paris Diderot University (France) during my second year. My university program trains me principles and practices in teaching English as a foreign language with particular coverage of the English language, cultures and literature.
For language testing scores, I got at 8.0 for IELTS in 2019, issued by Paris British Council. I also passed the HSK 3 Chinese Proficiency test in early 2021.
As a language teacher
I started out as an English teaching assistant at ILA Vietnam, where I got the Certificate of Teaching Excellence. I have also been supporting students preparing for IELTS tests since 2018, in tutoring and small-sized classes. Currently, I am working as a self-employed English instructor, with young learners and high school Vietnamese students. Concerning online teaching, I have got experience through various channels since 2018.
In 2020, I teamed up with two other university friends in the research named “The Effects of Input-based and Output-based Instruction on Grammar Acquisition”, supervised by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. In May 2021, our team got the Second Prize in The Student Research Competition at our university with this research.
